We used this time to continue working on his arachnid presentation. He is making progress but the results are moving at a slow pace. I believe that the topic is interesting enough for him. We took a brief break to feed the baby tarantulas and discuss their behavior.

I am substituting for Nicole for an additional 30 minute block.
This afternoon Bobby and I used the study skills class to continue his research on spider morphology in preparation for his keynote presentation. Bobby was able to make some progress here which is always positive. Homework is to move onto the next section which is a comparison between old world and new world spiders. This is an area where Bobby tends to over simplify so I will be focusing on how much detail he is able to provide.
This afternoon Bobby and I focused on the outline for his next digital presentation on arachnid physiology etc. We also took advantage of the time to organize his science binder and to organize the loose papers in his room. Bobby did not bring his daily planner to school today which hampered his ability to record his homework assignments.
This afternoon Bobby and I practiced our note taking skills in preparation for the arrival of our tarantulas. One of our goals in starting this research program is to learn more about the habitat and morphology of the tarantula. This will require considerable research, note taking and outlining.
This morning we finished the edits on Bobby's first powerpoint presentation. With some time remaining, we assembled an inventory checklist for his backpack.
This morning we used this time to work on the iMovie. Bobby has prepared his outline/timeline and is working on harvesting pictures and data. The movie must be a minimum of one and a half minutes. We appear to be moving forward once again.
This afternoon Bobby and I discussed his lack of progress with his digital presentation and some of the reasons why he is reluctant to proceed. Bobby admitted that no one has ever taught him how to use digital video etc. and he was feeling insecure about this. We agreed to start by preparing some simple storyboards using large index cards. He will prepare a timeline using the index cards as a means of organizing his material before creating the movie. He watched tutorial once again on Youtube and I shared with him several video selections that were prepared by my students in the past. Homework is to prepare the storyboard/timeline.
This afternoon Bobby and I used this period to work on his iMovie presentation featuring the virus. Bobby is reluctant to use this learning tool and is questioning the relevance of doing so. I am encouraging Bobby to become more technologically proficient and this exercise is the first of many.
This morning Bobby took the chapter five assessment. There was a lot of pushback and distractions but he scored a respectable 70% on the quiz. We used the study skills class to go over the assessment.
