Zach finished reading one of his summer reading books and should be in good shape with this book. We had a good discussion about the overall themes and how they are reflected in the characters. He still needs to finish the argument book, but should be in good shape.
Zach hasn't put too much effort into his summer reading thus far. He seems to be procrastinating a bit too much. He started reading The Glass Castle but only got through a couple of chapters. I challenged him to try to finish the book by next week. (Very do-able if he puts some effort into it.)
We had a bit of a breakdown in communication on the summer reading. Of the two books Zach is required to read this summer, I read one and he read the other over the last three weeks. Regardless, we were able to have a discussion about the different styles of arguments (topic of the book he read). He needs to put in some effort to make sure he gets all of the reading done before the start of school. He's a bit behind schedule as of now.
Zach is in great shape going into his exams. We went through it class by class, made sure he had all of his materials together, and then set up a study plan for the next week.
Zach put together some good work over the last week, and had his packet for science pretty much done. We spent today editing it and he should be in good shape.
We finished reading a book about the Liberty Bell. We discussed the meaning and history of the Liberty Bell. Quinn and Anna began a United States Symbols project.
Zach has a project in science in which he has to create a disease and put together an entire packet about it. We spent today researching different diseases and coming with ideas for him to write about. We'll keep working on it.
It was Bobby's last class, and it was close to impossible to get him to focus. I tried to do a recap of the material we've covered, but he was having none of it. So, I let him spend the rest of the session playing games with the other kids.
Zach brought in his work from history and we did a little research and discussion about World War 2. I did a check in for all of his classes and according to him, he's up to date and in good shape. He scored a 90 on his last history test, so it looks like he's starting to turn that around. We spent the rest of the session, reading and watching monologues, and critiquing the different performances.
