chord and secant segments
Lesson Outline
Outline on the board the method for determining the unknown line segment of a chord which intercepts a second chord forming a total of 4 line segments. Chord 1 consists of segments a,b and chord 2 consists of segments c,d The product of ab = the product of cd. An example and a few problems were given to increase learning. A second theorem involves a secant and a tangent, with a vertex outside the circle. The square of the tangent segment equals the sum of the secant segment times the outer segment of the secant. Examples and problems given to strengthen understanding...

real life use of statistics
Lesson Outline
Drawing on a case of infant deaths in a pediatric cardiac unit of a specialized hospital in Canada, we discussed how statistics was used to try to solve the unknown cause. A method of statistical analysis which was done by the epidemiologist and statistician was presented. The numbers of pediatric events, the hours on and off duty of certain nurses, the average number of deaths for each nurse when on duty and off duty , and with those averages being divided and standard deviations found, a number for each was generated. That number was evaluated in terms of probability of a person being responsible for an event.

Saying what just happened with "Acabar de"
Lesson Outline
Today, Sam and I spoke about "Acabar de" I explained : When you want to say that something just happened, use the present tense of ACABAR + DE+ INFINITIVE , Example: Acabo de comprar unos zapatos ( I just bought some shoes) (Yo acabo de comer, tu acabas de comer, el/ella/ud acaba de comer, Nosotros acabamos de comer, vosotros acabais de comer, ellos acaban de comer)... Sam wrote several examples from the textbook (page 184, activity 9).

Circle theorums
Lesson Outline
Having covered the definition ok chords, tangents, secants, and arcs in the previous lesson, theorems involving the calculation of inscribed angles, arc intercepted by ray lines, angles formed by secants and tangents with vertex outside the circle and calculations involving angles formed by intercepting lines inside the circle were discussed.

circles, theorums, orders of operation
Lesson Outline
Class began with a discussion involving statistics and how it is used to solve epidemiological investigations. Specifically the use by a group of researchers in Canada who were trying to find a cause for sudden infant mortality in a pediatric cardiac unit. How the use of graphs, means and medians and deviations help to narrow down the cause was discussed. Orders of operation were done to reinforce the last lesson on operations. Parts of a circle were presented and defined and described including chords, secants, tangents and arcs. Each was defined along with a drawn circle showing the segment. The use of lines and letters to represent each segment was also presented.

Spanish Language Test - Correction part 1
Lesson Outline
Today, Sam took her Spanish test including language usage items, communication items and reading items. An important consideration in the development of this section is comprehension of the sense of the text beyond knowledge of Spanish (Hispanic culture Part 1/2). We reviewed her test. Then Sam started to write correct answers, grammar and vocabulary notes. Also, we talked about conjugation verbs/personal pronoun (part 1).

Lesson Outline
Sam and I made some minor revisions to her paper. She did an awesome job and earned an A. We then finished three pages in her vocabulary book. She is ready to answer the cumulative vocabulary unit for a grade. We then finished reading and annotating the novel. I explained the fourteen chapter project on the novel which Sam will complete as her final.

special right triangles and orders of operation
Lesson Outline
This lesson will concentrate on the 45-45-90 degree triangle and review problems for the 30-60-90 triangle. In a 45-45-90, the 2 legs opposite the 45deg. angles are equal. The hypotenuse is S the square root of 2. A 45-45-90 triangle was presented with one side equal to 3cm. The hypotenuse and leg were determined. A second triangle was given with a hypotenuse of 12cm, the legs had to be determined. A review problem with a 30-60-90 triangle was given with the leg opposite the 30 listed as 4. The hypotenuse and second leg was determined. A square with a diagonal of 15 cm was given and the length of the side of the square determined. The altitude of an equilateral triangle was determined given a side measurement. Finally using the area formula for a triangle, the area of an equilateral triangle with a side of 10 cm was given.

With the information given for each one, Sam was able to calculate all the required unknowns and solve the problems. One or two required a little more explanation, but she handled them well. Again, when she is in class, she can perform.
