I worked with Samantha to discover all roots of various polynomials. We used several techniques and theorems to find rational, irrational, and complex roots of polynomials. We tried synthetic division, factoring by grouping, and substitution as methods to solve for all of the roots of each polynomial and also used the Fundamental Theorem of Algebra to find the number of roots. There was no assignment.

Lesson Comments
Samantha is very skilled in the techniques required for factoring polynomials.
The different brain wave frequencies and their relation to states of consciousness was explained. These frequency ranges were compared to different frequency ranges of the electromagnetic spectrum, and the sensory frequency ranges of visible light and hearing. Brainwave entertainment, or the synchronization of the brain wave frequencies with the rhythm of periodic external stimuli like sound was introduced.
Sam took notes on the principles embodied in the Constitution such as rule of law, separation of powers, and limited government. We then studied a chart on checks and balances and Sam took notes on the powers of each branch of government and how other branches can check that power. We then addressed federalism and ,in connection with that study, I distributed a sample ballot that will be used in tomorrow's election. We discussed how the ballot reflects both separation of powers and federalism. We also reviewed the results of Sam's test. For homework, I assigned from the text the reading on federalism, and the completion of a study guide I prepared that requires Sam to analyze the sample ballot and apply some principles we have discussed. Sam is also to make corrections to her test responses.
Sam and I discussed the novel up to where she had read. We read "Yul Kwon, From Bullying Target To Reality TV Star." It is an informational text article that parallels a young person being bullied for being different. We answered the text dependent questions and talked about the similarities between the main character Arnold in the novel and Yul Kwon. Sam will finish reading the novel for the next class.
