I showed Matthew how to rationalize denominators and simplify radical expressions. We used both the product and quotient of radical expressions to illustrate the ways that an expression can be simplified. There was no assignment.

Joshua and I worked with positive and negative coterminal angles. We calculated using both radian and degree measures. I also introduced him to the co-functions of secant, cosecant, and cotangent and he tried to find the functional values of several special angles. There was no assignment.

I worked with Matthew to apply the properties of exponents to rational numbers. We used the properties in numeric examples to simplify expressions with rational exponents. We also used negative exponents in some of the examples to indicate the reciprocal. There was no assignment.

I worked with Joshua to show him how angles with the same terminal side could have multiple representations. I introduced negative angles as well as radian measure equivalents for degree designations. We did a few practice problems using the conversion factors. There was no assignment.

I introduced Matthew to rational exponents as a way to show both roots and powers in a single expression. We combined that short-hand notation with the property that negative exponents represent the reciprocals. We did some problems converting between radical expressions and fractional powers. There was no assignment.

Joshua and I worked on problems dealing with the six trigonometric functions. We were given different angles to create the ratios of the side lengths and represent them by their functions. We also solved information given in triangles to find sides given one angle and two sides. There was no assignment.

The plan was to introduce Matthew to the next major topic of Algebra II, rational exponents and radical functions. I was going to introduce nth roots of a real number and show how the numerators and denominators of rational exponents work to raise numbers to powers and take roots at the same time. I was going to work with him to do some guided practice problems. Unfortunately, Matthew was absent and unable to take instruction either virtually or in person. There was no assignment.

Matthew worked on the remainder of his test on polynomials. He worked problems on factoring and solving each factor to find the zeros of the functions. He also provided all possible values to check for zeros of polynomials and correctly applied synthetic division rules. There was no assignment. The score on his test was 100%.

I demonstrated how to provide all six trigonometric ratios of right triangles with only an unknown angle and two sides given. Joshua provided the length of the missing side and the ratios of the two sides called for by each trigonometric function. There was no assignment.

Joshua finished his test on sequences and series and scored a 100%. I then started to give him definitions from trigonometry using the different ratios with regard to certain functions. I went over the definitions of sine, cosine, tangent, cosecant, secant, and cotangent and their relationships to each other. We did some guided practice. There was no assignment.
