During this session, we went over practice problems similar to the ones that will be seen in the Grid-In section. Topics covered included the rules for filling in the Grid-In section, extended thinking questions, factoring, and simultaneous equations. Laila was attentive and performed well. We went over Laila's essay that she had written. I gave her some strategies to improve it although it was very good. We then did practice tests in Grammar and Reading. We discussed the ones that she missed. We talked about some test taking strategies, too.

During this session, we went over concepts and practice problems pertaining to geometry and trigonometry. Topics covered included area and volume formulas, converting from degrees to radians, special types of triangles (such as 45-45-90 and 30-60-90), and determining the lengths of sides of triangles using sine and cosine. Laila was attentive and performed well. Her progress is on track for preparing for the the math section of the SAT.

We began preparing for the reading portion of the SAT. Laila completed two practice tests. After the first one, we discussed the ones she missed and talked about employing some strategies. For the second one, she used some of the strategies and said that they worked well for her. We then discussed the one that she missed. She really did well on both tests. We need to work on speed since the test is timed.

Lesson Outline
Laila brought some problems on projectile motion and other kinematic topics. We used kinematic formulas and trigonometry to resolve given velocity vectors into vertical and horizontal components to solve for time, maximum height, and downrange distance.
