We Google met briefly but we experienced audio technical difficulties and agreed to reconvene later in the day.
I reached out to Ben for three other meets but he did not reply. I will be giving him a science tech article over the break to review, in addition to reading 'The House of leaves.' We will review all this in tomorrow's in-person class.
Discuss the term peptide and amino acid. Draw structural formulas and depict how amino acids can bond together, amino group end of one amino acid to the acid group end of a second amino acid, along with the removal of a water molecule. Define these as dipeptides and the bond formed as a peptide bond.. Show diagrams of proteins folding over each other to form a polypeptide. Define polypeptides in terms of amino acid groups.
We will do problems related to the use of equations of lines. Some will ask for the equation from given information, some will ask to change the form of the equation.
Introduce the area of biochemistry. Begin the study by discussing proteins. Define an amino acid and sketch a molecular formula for a generic amino acid. Label the acid functional group, the amino functional group, the central carbon which contains a hydrogen atom, and the side chains which can be any atoms from a hydrogen to complex alkane and/or aromatic cyclicals. Sketch an example of a few.
We read through two chapters and agreed that many of the scholars and theories that the character, Zampano, cites are fictional. We even looked up a college that was referenced in the novel - and found it to be fictional. We stopped reading abruptly when Danieleweski referred to the house as 'God,' - exactly the phraseology Ben used in his answer on a test a week ago! (He was proud he nailed that analysis). Ben demonstrates very insightful and intuitive analyses when prompted to respond to queries. We agreed that the narrators in the book create the physical and abstract boundaries of the house - which results in the reader personally constructing his/her own theory about the house. We read how the character, Karen, met with a realtor about selling the house - after which Ben added, "she should just burn it!" As difficult and challenging as it is to follow the text and themes of this novel due to the multi-layering of narratives, footnotes, and unusual typography, Ben has been following the themes well and has analyzed the literary techniques Danieleweski utilizes to engage the reader, make him/her question sensibilities, and formulate his/her own narrative. It's been quite challenging but worth the effort!
We will identify four forms of the equation of a line. Each has its own uses and applications that fit various given facts. We will also change from one form to another.
Assignment

Lesson Comments
We did examples using all forms of a linear equation by starting with different sets of given information.
