Continued working on in-text citations today. We discussed APA formatting for essays, reviewing a sample paper from Purdue owl and checking off as he completed each necessary formatting detail (spacing, font size/style, title page, page numbering, etc.).
Complete the reading of the paper presented by ABC news which deals with the complex issue of Arctic heating. The long range effects it will have on the economy, shipping, plant and animal life which cannot adapt, and military preparation.
Continuation the discussion on the ABC report which describes the Arctic ice sheet melting, the polar ice caps, and the permafrost. This unit today concentrates on the world wide effect the melting ice caps has on ocean rise, jet stream fluctuations and movement of cold air into regions not prepared.

Unfortunately, the desk top computer in the science lab was occupied, both lap tops available in the cabinet could not access teams. Eventually, a desk top in the library was successful, but the ambient noise made it near impossible.
Ayden completed his summary paragraph. Next, we reviewed how to create and format an APA citation. Then, he started his reference list with a goal of 5 sources.
*Ayden fell asleep about half way through chapter six and I couldn't get him up myself. At last, he woke up at 11:10. :) He's making it up by reading the rest of chapter 6 and 7 independently outside of class time.
Continue discussion presented by ABC news regarding melting Arctic ice. Review of arctic amplification theory regarding the greater rise in temperature in the Arctic region than elsewhere.
Diagram to show that the Sun's rays are not reflected as much as previous. The exposed land and water absorb more of the energy, which was previously reflected.
The biggest long-term effect of warming in the Arctic will be sea level rise. The level has risen 6 inches since the industrial revolution.
The loss from the Greenland ice sheet will have its greatest impact on places far away from the Arctic. Sea level rises from melting and continued climate change will exacerbate coastal erosion.

Ayden diagramed the melting and sea level rise quite accurately.
Ayden made revisions to his research paper, specifically focusing on transition statements between paragraphs. Next, he needs to complete his summary/conclusion paragraph, work on in-text citations, and complete his reference page.
