Cross Creek /non fiction
Lesson Outline
We explored the conventional wisdom that non fiction is always "the truth." I discussed how the people of Cross Creek depicted in the novel often had a different version of the events than those portrayed in the book. We then studied how the author , unaware of the cultural values of Cross Creek , may have been seen as callous or simply nosey. We examined how the author explains her actions in not properly maintaining her shambled tenant house and discussed whether her penitent attitude is genuine . We further noted the motif of materialism not leading to fulfillment. Last, we reviewed Aiden's vocabulary work which was very good today.

Chicka Chicka Boom Book and Art Activity
Lesson Outline
We read the classic book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault. Then the three little artists created their Chicka Chicka Boom Boom art activity. They had to color and cut out the palm tree, the palm leaves, and the coconuts; assemble them; and then glue them on their paper. Then they had to arrange and glue the pre-cut letters of their first name going up the coconut tree. For the last part of the activity, they had to fill out the sheet that read, "Here comes my name up the coconut tree! My name is __________________ it has _________ letters in it!" They did a super job!

STEAM: Eggsellent Egg Crate Challenge
Lesson Outline
We went outside and started by launching Eggbert the egg in his parachute in drops of six feet, eight feet, eight feet seven inches, and 10 feet 10 inches. He survived the flights. Then we dropped Jackson's egg 67 in his crate from several heights. 67 survived six feet, eight feet, and 10 feet drops. He also survived a 40 feet throw by Jackson. We had the measuring tape and measured the distances. For the 40 feet throw, Jackson had to add 25 feet plus 15 feet because the tape measure ends at 25 feet. Jackson's design was successful and protected 67 the egg.

Unit 4 Humans and Their Place in the Universe
Module 2 The Sun-Earth-Moon System
Lesson Outline
Lesson 1 Earth’s Motion Around the Sun – We learned what causes the cyclic pattern of the seasons. We learned that Earth’s axis spin is fixed in direction over the short-term but tilted relative to its orbit around the sun. The seasons are a result of that tilt and are caused by the differential intensity of sunlight on different areas of the Earth across the year. When the northern hemisphere tilts toward the Sun it receives more concentrated sunlight and has warmer temperatures, but when it tilts away from the sun, it receives less sunlight and has cooler temperatures. We created a model showing the tilt of Earth’s axis and the revolution around the Sun. This model illustrates the reason for seasons on Earth.
