We continued to analyze the US Congress by first reviewing the term "bicameral". I then explained the historical origins of the US bicameral legislature and the 1787 justification for creating a Senate chamber that is essentially undemocratic by giving unpopulated states equal representation to heavily populated states in the US Senate. Sofia then took notes on the roles of: the vice-president the Speaker of the House, the president pro tempe ,and the House and Senate whips. I last introduced the role of House and Senate committees and we studied the distinct roles of a select and standing committee. Sofia raised many interesting political questions during our class discussion .
As an introduction to our drama unit, we first discussed the difference between a novel and a play, and I sketched a stage on the board indicating the stage directions: stage right, stage left, upstage and downstage. As Sofia has an interest in interior design ,we then studied pictures of numerous stage sets for the play ,and we analyzed the theory of open set staging to avoid scene change interruptions. We then examined a character list and the playwright's place and timeframe directions. I reviewed the elements of the Freytag Pyramid and Sofia then applied the Freytag terminology of exposition, climax ,etc. to the books we read this year. I discussed how the play is artfully drafted in that in the opening pages the playwright quickly introduces the characters and their traits and lays the groundwork for the conflicts that will arise in the play .
In today's session Sofia and I completed the elephant toothpaste activity. This gives her a introduction to chemical reactions and uses our energy transfer.
We discussed the chapter as we progressed. Sofia did a great job of figuring out the meaning of words that she was unfamiliar with by using the context from the text.
Today, Sofia concentrated on the rehearsal and production for the TCUS3 Character to be shot on location. Reading of 3 Scenes/sides practicing her internal dialogue and planned behavior, she is collaborating on the scenes. She is also shooting footage for a choreographic performance design reel-in-progress.
