I was a substitute from 8:13am-8:58am. Sub. plans were not provided. I provided Ben a choice of three Read Works passages ranging from grades 10-12th grade. Ben chose an 11-12th grade passage, "Humanity on the Record" and answered comprehension questions.
PJ and I took turns reading chapters sixteen and seventeen in the novel, "Fish in a Tree". PJ discussed his own personal experiences relating them to the novel. PJ then completed a written assignment on chapters eight through fourteen, choosing a character and describing what he has learned about the character so far, using details from the novel.

Ben read a fiction and nonfiction article carefully. He underlined important details from the text to help analyze the author's purpose from both stories.
Today was our school's Thanksgiving lunch! Ben read an article titled, "Blessings in Our Lives." He read and discussed the text. He made connections from his life to the article and spoke about what he is thankful for in his life. He created a bubble diagram of his thoughts connected to the article.
PJ is feeling much better today. He continued to practice reading short reading passages to infer the main idea and analyze the details of the story. He is showing improvements in this reading skill.
