Ayden and I reviewed all of the vocabulary words gleaned from The Hobbit. Ayden wrote sentences for each word. I am encouraged that Ayden seems to have internalized the meanings and can demonstrate this in his writing.
Dutch completed an exercise from the 7th grade math IXL skills list, Solving Integers Using Multiplication and Division. He also practiced several multiplication facts.
To begin, Ayden answered short answer questions on yesterday's reading. We reviewed the vocabulary list. I am pleased with his progress on both fronts.
I prepared short answer questions about the previous day's reading. Ayden answered the questions independently, and then I helped him to edit his work.
We reviewed the vocabulary list and chose additional words from the text. Ayden typed the original sentence, guessed at the word meaning using context clues, and looked up the definitions. He wrote original sentences for each word. I helped him to edit his writing.
We reviewed the vocabulary list. I encourage Ayden to review the words in context; he is internalizing the usage of the words much better. He answered short answer questions about Chapter 11 of The Hobbit. I am pleased that Ayden is more independent about writing and editing his thoughts.
Ayden and I reviewed and added to the vocabulary list. Ayden answered 5 short answer questions covering Chapters 7-11 of The Hobbit. I continue to encourage Ayden to expand his sentences and use more descriptive language.
We reviewed the vocabulary list. Ayden benefits from repeated exposure to the words to get the nuance of the meanings. He picked a new word from yesterday's reading. After guessing the meaning using context clues, he looked up the definition and wrote a sentence. Next, we updated the essay outline. I expect that a well-organized outline will make the writing process less overwhelming for Ayden.

Lesson Comments
I apologize for over-dramatizing the Denise Djani emails. If they require an answer, I will cc you. As we discussed, I think both Ayden and Denise would benefit from meeting with a college counselor who can help them plan for the college application process. Perhaps she could help with Ayden's siblings as well.
