I presented questions about The Hobbit for Ayden to answer via Google Docs. I helped him to expand upon his answers and edit the sentences. Next, we pulled five vocabulary words from Chapter 1. Ayden typed the sentences that included the words and made an educated guess about their meaning using context clues.
I helped Ayden confirm his PERT test tomorrow, including obtaining the Zoom link and making online re-test payments. He assured me that he had informed his teachers that he would miss his morning classes. We agreed that he would touch base with me after the test and we would decide if he would have my afternoon class. We reviewed the reading portion of the PERT by perusing a practice test.
I helped Ayden email John Kiefler at PBSC to reschedule the PERT. He requested to take the test on January 6, 7, 8. Classes at PBSC start on January 11. We researched and determined that a passing score for the math section is 114, the writing section requires a 103, and the reading section a 106. Therefore, Ayden needs to get seven more correct answers on the math, four on the writing, and five on the reading. Ayden forwarded me additional PERT practice materials provided by his test proctor. We will use these materials next session.
First, Ayden and I discussed his experience taking the PERT writing test. He was visibly relieved and pleased to have earned an 88. We agreed that he should slow down when he re-takes the test (he took it in under an hour but could have used up to three hours.). Next, we reviewed the reading portion of the PERT, which he will take tomorrow.

Ayden was under the impression that he did not have school after the test. However, he texted me and asked me to review the PERT reading section. After 30 minutes he said that he was ready to go and thanked me for my time. I billed for the 90 minutes but if that isn't appropriate please adjust accordingly.
I think that taking the test was a important milestone for Ayden.
We spent the majority of the session confirming the details of the PERT this week. Ayden had not received the confirmation email and link from PBSC; I helped him follow up until he had the necessary information. With the time remaining, we reviewed test strategies for the writing and reading sections of the test.

Ayden is very nervous about taking the PERT. I tried to reassure him.
