Today, we began by reviewing and correcting problems from last night's homework before Kellan and I continued our subtracting multi-digit number fluency game. Then, the lesson on generating equivalent fractions using division was reviewed and Kellan answered the lesson's quick assessment questions. The remainder of class was spent at the schoolwide Black History Month celebration.
Kellan read about soil how soil forms. We worked on reading comprehension. He drew an illustrated diagram about the layers of soil: topsoil, subsoil, and bedrock.
Kellan read about fresh and saltwater. He learned about glaciers and groundwater. We discussed and he summarized. He watched a video about glaciers and we reviewed.
Kellan read for me aloud today. We focused on slowing down and pausing for punctuation. He tends to read rapidly, which is when he stumbles over multisyllabic words, which makes comprehension difficult.
Kellan and I began with a subtracting multi-digit numbers fluency game. At the same time, we each pointed to a 3-digit number, created a subtraction equation, and found the difference. The answer was found on the gameboard and a tally was given to the player whose square contained the difference. Then, we continued the lesson on using division to find equivalent fractions. Kellan found the missing numbers and divided to find equivalent fractions.
