This morning, we focused on understanding decimals, decimal place values, and how to say decimal amounts. Then, we worked on comparing decimals with decimal war using 0 - 9 number cards and a printed decimal. Using a zero in the ones place and the printed decimal, we each flipped over a card in the tenths place. Kellan correctly said the amount as a decimal and as a fraction before determining who won the round. Then, cards were placed in the tenths and hundredths place and compared using the same process of saying the amount as a decimal and fraction. If the amounts were the same we had a war and the player with the most cards at the end of class won the game.
Kellan examined a leaf under a magnifying glass and identified the veins and cells. He reviewed the functions and locations of the following parts of a leaf: vein, xylem, phloem, cuticle, epidermis, stoma and guard cells. He wrote answers to the workbook questions on parts of a leaf.
