WE reviewed our notes on the athletes, the question list, and talked about other technical details to have set-up in advance in order to maximize Brogan's sense of ease during the actual interviews. We discussed how active listening is perhaps the most important skill to develop in the art of interviewing, and why.
We worked on preparing for the Zoom interviews in order that the tech end of thing is squared-away well in advance and Brogan is comfortable recording, etc. Then, we reviewed our questions for the interviews, and finally we discussed potential timeline for setting the interviews. Brogan will discuss with her parents the possibilities there.
We continued formulating questions specific to the athletes Brogan is interviewing. We listened to a class taught by Bob Woodward on "Preparing for the Interview", and "Conducting the Interview".
Using the Sports Journalism text we continue to consider ideal questions. Then, we watched an interview with Diamond which inspired many more questions.
We worked on crafting several "pillar" questions that will form the basis of the interviews using the guidelines for good questions for the Sports Journalism text.
We decided on a multi player interview with the focus being "When did you know?", as in, when did they know they wanted to be a pro athlete. We also read an interview with Amy G.
We watched a video clip of Amy G, a sports journalist and hero of Brogan's. We did a journalism exercise where we quickly wrote and then performed mini commercials. We also, decided that Diamond, a WNBA player, would make a great interview subject.
We went over the guidelines for Brogan's 8th grade project , and discussed potential topics. We decided on an interview, and bounced around ideas regarding with whom.
