Star Trooper project -
Will continued to work on the Star Trooper project. Today he used the magic wand tool, and we worked on matching color and hue. Will was concerned that the hands of the ‘trooper’ matched his own coloring. He decided to change the hands to match his face, which was a more complex procedure. He completed his task very well. He also adjusted the collar around the neck of the trooper Will. Finally he made sure he had no orphan brush strokes - which are pieces of the original photo that are not intended to be added to the final image.

The Star Trooper project -
This is a test project, so Will was tasked with identifying the what needed to be done and how he was going to accomplish the goal. Will concentrated on using the rubber stamp tool, which he believes should be called the copy tool, to cover the face of the original star trooper with sky. This is in preparation for placing his head on the storm trooper.

The Star Trooper project -
Will was tested on Photoshop. He was given an image of himself, and an image of a Star Wars character. He was tasked with putting his face on the figure. He separated his image from its original background, and placed it on the image of the star trooper. We worked together to register and re-size the images. Time ran out just as Will had cleaned up his image to fit on the second image. I gave Will the Vanity Fair Star Wars magazine, from which our project image originated. I suggested he think about how we could use some of the images in a future project. Homework: look for images to use for photoshop projects.

Will and I reviewed his homework assignment from last week. I asked Will to examining his photos, and removing the ones that were out of focus or unintentional. I was impressed with his photos of the wired witch figure. He had captured a nice expose of shadow and form. We discussed how the direction of light changed the perspective. Homework: Take images of a subject that is exposed to the sun, and three different times of day. Due Thursday.

Photo for Photoshop and telephoto lenses -
Will and I discussed how an image could be captured, with Photoshop projects in mind. We moved to the back parking lot to use the telephoto lens. Will was tasked with finding different things, through the lens. This is a difficult thing to do, but Will figured out that by zooming in to find the target, and zooming out to get the photo, make the task easier. We discussed ‘depth of field’ as we walked around looking for things to photograph. We happened upon a congregation of ibis, giving Will an opportunity to use the telephoto lens with wildlife.

photos for advertising -
Will and I examined his homework; take photographs of three ‘products’ as if for an advertisement. One of the ‘products’ should be food. Will took photos of a bottle of Windex, a carton of eggs, a glass jack-o-lantern, and his guitar. We reviewed the photos and edited out the ones that were out of focus. We also edited the duplicate images. Then we examined the remaining and discussed how they could be used for a print advertisement, I was very pleased with Will’s choices with using the flash, and changing perspectives. We discussed lighting, shadow, subject, perspective and focus. Homework; Take images of three things he could imagine using with Photoshop.
