Today's lesson focused on Acropolis. Mercer learned details about why this city became known as the home for the Gods. He read that Acropolis was located on the highest ground and contained the chief municipal and religious building. He learned that because an acropolis had to be a citadel, religiously, the hill where it was located was imbued with natural mysteries—caves, springs, copses, and glens—that denoted the presence of the gods.

Reading Comprehension Spelling Grammar Wordly Wise Literature Handwriting
Lesson Outline
Mercer took his spelling test and made a 100. We reviewed his new spelling words and their meanings, then he wrote them into his notebook. He did an activity with his Wordly Wise words writing them into sentences demonstrating his knowledge of the words. He read an article, "Protecting the Clouded Leopard." Before reading, we investigated new vocabulary words, writing them into his notebook along with their meanings. After reading the article, we identified the main idea and the supporting details of the story using a visual diagram. We also reviewed the use of analogies in the article.
