Brooke seemed very encouraged to day and was less timid about drawing in my presence. We discussed some of her online story writing and how it's available for a select audience to see. She is very concerned about being ridiculed for her drawing. After our discussion I think she is less concerned and sees her imperfections as both unavoidable and less relevant. We reviewed some video material where a comic book artist commented on how his style is really the convergence of attempts to cover up his perceived weaknesses. I think Brooke was able to relate to this well and was encouraged to take a more assertive role with her work.
In this session Brooke continue to work positively toward taking ownership of her storyboarding. She responds well to encouragement and seeks affirmation. What we're doing now is shifting from my demonstrations to her driving the next step. She's now making short notes about her ideas for future development while not discarding her present work. This is keepingher from heading down blind alleys. Once she has this first page of six panels done we can move toward digitizing the sketches and into more advanced techniques for rendering her images.

Brooke seemed to really enjoy the inking techniques. I think it inspired her to try new ways of drawing and encouraged her to embrace her 'imperfections' as signature traits of her drawing style. She did a few sketches for homework and these looked very promising. I want her to become more prolific and become comfortable generating more work and refining the concepts through multiple iterations. She's accustomed to working on single pieces a little too much. At this point I think she would benefit from practicing specific studies on different characters instead of finishing a single character to full completion.

Brooke was not feeling 100% but was persistent and participated well. She was working rather slowly, so I modeled the different scene angles that I wanted her to incorporate and she responded well by coming up with original ideas to apply to her project.

Good session with Joey. He spent some time working on his project over the weekend and even though he didn't get much produced, he got into it and enjoyed the detailed work. Overall, the project is progressing nicely.
