I spent 30 minutes with Amina, but I spent at least 30 minutes preparing for our meeting and sending Amina notes from the session.
I enjoyed meeting Amina online. After talking about her college list, goals, and deadlines, Amina shared her rough-draft essays for Pratt and Parsons via Google Docs. We agreed to meet again tomorrow; in the meantime, I will read her essays and make suggestions. Her applications for Pratt and Parsons are due November 1.
Amina and I worked on an audio recording which she was assigned in her AP French Language and Culture book. As there was no vocabulary list to precede the recording, I had Amina look at the questions and multiple choice answers for the story. Amina read each question and it's matching multiple choice answers in French. As she translated the sentences, we identified the vocabulary which was new for her. She then formed a word bank, vocabulary list with those words. This made the translation flow for Amina. Next we listened to the story which Amina had uploaded. Again she identified unfamiliar vocabulary by stopping the recording periodically. When the recording was complete, Amina answered the questions. Amina did very well. She is bright, conscientious and a pleasure to teach.

Amina took a picture of the story in her textbook (which I did not have yet) and sent it to me. She read the story in French and I made pronunciation corrections as needed. As she completed each paragraph, we reviewed the grammar and vocabulary presented and then translated. I explained the idiomatic expressions as Amina encountered them. She did well. Amina is a very pleasant young lady and it was a pleasure working with her.
