Today, we proofread our persuasive essay. We moved onto literature, and Bella wrote a response to the following prompt: Write a paragraph comparing and contrasting Scrooge with his nephew. Be sure to begin with a strong, clear topic sentence, detail sentences, and a wrap-up sentence that relates the details to the topic sentence. For your detail sentences, remember to introduce a quotation, cite the quotation properly, and elaborate on the quotation.
Today, Bella and I completed her persuasive essay. We focused on crafting a strong conclusion paragraph that broadens the topic discussed in the thesis statement. We transitioned to literature, and I introduced the next passage of A Christmas Carol by indicating that we will focus on characterization of Scrooge, his nephew, and will write a paragraph comparing and contrasting these two characters. We then read the passage of A Christmas Carol.
In today’s class, we continued our discussion on genetics, including talking about chromosomes, autosomes, sex chromosomes, and karyotyping. Bella took notes that followed along with the material.
The Civil Rights of Other Minority Groups: Some Issues & Actions
Lesson Outline
Civil rights are liberties and freedoms that everyone should have. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights recognizes that all humans are born with these civil rights and should benefit as such. Women and African Americans are not the only people who have fought for civil rights. Other minority groups have benefited from civil rights because the laws protect them from various forms of discrimination. Workplace, housing, public spaces, and voting rights are now available to all people regardless of race, gender, nationality, etc. due to the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Still, some groups have had to wait longer for more benefits. For example, Hispanics gained more access to voter registration when an amendment to the Voting Rights Act of 1965 gave them access to voter registration materials in their native language. Civil rights in modern times focuses on expanding opportunities and ensuring equal representation for all citizens.
