Last night, President Biden hosted the first State Dinner of his presidency for President Macron of France. The tradition of State Dinners originated in 1874, when President Ulysses Grant hosted King David Kalakaua of the Kingdom of Hawaii. In 1902, President Theodore Roosevelt expanded the State Dining Room as part of a larger White House renovation, allowing for larger gatherings. We explored great photos from previous state dinners in US presidential history through the White House Historical Organization.

Today, we continued working writing/typing the first draft of our persuasive essay. We worked on making sure our thesis statement is strong, clear, and in the correct location. We worked on clarity and placement of topic sentences for our body paragraphs. We worked on proper MLA formatting.

During today's Spanish class, we practiced Spanish by talking about pets and the adoption of pets.

Hakeem Jeffries was elected House Democratic Leader this week making history as the first Black lawmaker to lead a major party in Congress. He is a Congressman from NY and we spent the period learning more about Jeffries and what his appointment may mean to the Legislative Branch of government.
