Today, Bella and I finished up our Hero's Journey unit with a project on the story, "The Epic of Gilgamesh." She completed creating her hero's journey diagram detailing how plot points in "The Epic of Gilgamesh" fulfill the different stages in the journey.
She then presented it to me. I showed her how to access files I upload into Teams.
The Constitutional Convention: The Great Compromise
Lesson Outline
We reviewed that the Articles of Confederation, the first federal government of the US, was far too weak because it did not give enough power over the states to the federal government. In 1787 12 of the 13 original states sent delegates to the Constitutional Convention to design a new government that would have more power. The Great Compromise at the convention combined elements of both the VA Plan and the NJ Plan and created a bicameral government, one with proportional representation and the other with equal representation. Participants in the Constitutional Convention also compromised by creating the electoral college and the 3/5 compromise. The electoral college is a process in which state electors decide the winner of presidential elections. The 3/5 compromise determined that enslaved people would be counted as less than free people in a state's political representation.
In today's lesson, we began our first lesson on DNA, including its composition and structure. We also briefly discussed RNA. We watched a video, reviewed notes and answered review questions, Bella did very well.
Today, Bella and I started wrapping up our study of The Hero's Journey. We finished reading and summarizing the plot points of "The Epic of Gilgamesh," and Bella started her final project which is to diagram the hero's journey in "The Epic of Gilgamesh." We also finished discussing the 12 character archetypes and her examples of each archetype.
Today, Bella worked on a test that covers all of the topics we've covered over the past couple weeks (organic molecules & heterotrophs). Help was provided as needed.

Bella worked hard on her work today; I was very pleased with her output!
Today we reviewed how the first form of government after the American Revolution didn't work. The Articles of Confederation established the colonies as a union of states and served as the nation's constitution. Basically, the Declaration of Independence said that the colonies were no longer part of Britain, and the Articles of Confederation said that those colonies were their own nation with its own government. This document legally gave the Continental Congress the power to direct the colonies, interact with other governments, and conduct the war against Britain. It was the first attempt by the Americans to really develop their own government, but it quickly became obvious that the nation would need more direct leadership after the war was over. In 1789, the Articles of Confederation were replaced with the U.S. Constitution, which restructured American government beginning in 1789 to this very day.
Today, Bella and I discussed and took notes on the 12 character archetypes: lover, hero, magician, outlaw, explorer, sage, innocent, creator, ruler, caregiver, everyman and jester. She color-coded each archetype and wrote down one example of each archetype from her own knowledge of stories.
Assignment
Bella is to complete taking notes on, color coding, and providing examples of the 12 character archetypes. She should bring this to school tomorrow.
