Sam was absent today. I took the period to lesson plan.

We learned about the Debt ceiling and the current projections that may lead to a government shut down in the near future.

We looked at some current events that may impact International Trade including China and parts of Europe.

We reviewed Price Elasticity and how supply and demand change when a product's price changes. We watched a video to help explain the graphing of this calculation.

We explored how the US government has different tax rates and redistributes income, corrects for externalities, and attempts to stabilize the economy.

We discussed aggregate economic activity as well as real inflation adjusted GDP and how it is used as an economic indicator.

We looked at the different types of Bonds and their features. Sam investigated which he would potentially invest in and weighed the pros and cons associated with the risks.

I worked with Sam to practice some of the techniques of factoring polynomial equations and solving them. We solved equations involving sums and differences of cubes, factoring out monomial expressions common to all terms of a polynomial, and factoring quadratic forms of higher degree polynomials. There was no assignment.

I guided Sam through several factoring techniques. I showed him how to factor out common monomials existing in every term of a polynomial. Then, in order to factor completely, the remaining polynomial must be tested to ascertain whether the polynomial is in the form of the sum or differeence of two cubes, a four-term polynomial that can be factored by grouping, or a higher degree polynomial that can be factored using quadratic forms. We did several examples and guided practice problems. There was no assignment.
