Jaydn said she still was not feeling well. She was given options for completing her assignments and she chose to work on the comprehension questions on A Raisin in the Sun. She seems to enjoy the play. She was compliant and I listed all assignments in her team files and also in her chat so she has access. I asked her to email me her assignments by Friday January 20, by 9 am at the latest. She had no questions about my expectations. She was on-task and cooperative.

Western Expansion & Treatment of Western Native Americans
Lesson Outline
One of the ways the U.S. government tried to gain access to Native American land was through forced assimilation. On March 3, 1819, the Indian Civilization Act Fund structured the Indian Boarding School Policy. This policy called for the reprogramming of Indigenous children. These children were stripped of their traditional clothing, made to wear colonial attire, given haircuts for the same purpose, and brutally punished if they used their native language. By 1925, more than 60,000 children lived in these assimilation institutions. The desecration of the Native
American culture was complete. Deadly ambushes, imprisonment of tribal leaders, forced relocation, and assimilation all contributed to the destruction of vibrant cultures.

Lesson Comments
We defined the Harlem Renaissance and discussed Langston Hughes's poem "A Dream Deferred" and applied it to the character of Ruth in the play.
Jaydn took notes readily in docs and really seemed to enjoy reading dialogue aloud from the play. She read Ruth's role insightfully and with inflection. She is keeping track of the characters with a chart. She said she was ill, but was on task for the session.

Call of the Wild
Lesson Outline
As we have postponed the scheduled test until Thursday's session, we used a portion of today's session to practice how to prepare a written quote analysis. After Jaydn reviewed a quote from the prior chapter, we discussed its context and significance and how to organize a written response. After discussing how the Naturalist genre applies,Jaydn drafted a quote analysis. Next,we discussed the dueling dynamics of Buck's instinctive longing for the wild and his ecstatic love for his new owner,John Thornton.I helped Jaydn decipher some of the metaphorical references to "roof and fire" and assigned some study guide questions which were completed. At the end of the session, we reviewed the written work to address any grammatical and punctuation issues.
