Today we paused in the curriculum to do some AP style questions on the content we've learned so far in this Unit. I gathered materials from prominent colleagues and Joshua and I worked through the problems together. We started with a Free Response question. The first required Joshua to recall content from back in September. He did a great job. I made comments on his notation to ensure that he would earn full credit for what the AP readers are looking for. Then the problem required Joshua to manipulate exponential functions. This was a great practice for us to apply the skills we've been working on lately.
Review hw answers. Discuss structural and molecular formulas for a series of Benzene compounds. Introduce official IUPAC names as well as common chemical names and traditional names. Explain Alkynes bonding. Introduce functional organic group definition and explain the first group as the halogens. Examine the nomenclature by using examples, discuss physical property differences, isomers, and alcohols. From a number of structural formulas, derive the correct name, and vice versa
We continued to study the blood and water imagery in Act II as well as the psychological impact of guilt on both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. Further, we studied the dramatic function of the comic relief of the porter scene . I provided historical background on some of the Porter's allusions to the trials of those involved in the Gunpowder Plot . I further assisted Joshua in interpreting the extended metaphors in the soliloquies .Last, we reviewed Johua's revised homework answers based on my comments to his study study guide questions.
Introduce the chemistry of alkyne hydrocarbons, and the placement of triple bonds. Discuss the chemistry of Benzene, its molecular and structural formula. Diagram how it exists as a resonance structure, with the double bond rotating between the six carbons in the planar hexoganal structure. Build a molecular model to show the planar structure.
