Today we highlighted on the board how the major characters are all outcasts from society due to physical or mental infirmity, poverty, and/or race.. We further noted how each character is pathologically lonely and carries a broken dream in his/her psyche. Joshua located textual passages from the novel that supported these characterizations, and we then tied the characters' personal broken dreams to the novel's theme of the broken promise of the American Dream at least for society's outcasts. We began a character analysis of Curley's wife and will study how this broken character becomes somewhat sympathetic to the reader. We further noted the role of race as an external force that predestines Crooks to a life of isolation and societal disdain.
Today we reviewed for the Unit 1 Part 2 Test. We covered AP Unit 1 sections 1.7-1.14. Joshua worked on multiple choice questions, worked his thought process aloud and I interjected only when he was on the verge of an error. Joshua is has an excellent understanding of the material. However, he could use some practice with test taking strategies. This is not of dire concern just yet, because we will have a month of review prior to his AP Test. Now we are focusing on the skills and then we will focus on how to apply them.
Introduction to organic chemistry and organic molecules. Discuss the history of organic compounds. Examine the structural formula of the first lab synthesized organic molecule, urea. Show the hybridization of the carbon orbitals to form 4 bonds. Present a newer definition of organic compounds. Use models to build the ri4st 5 compounds in the methane hydrocarbon series. Discuss the nomenclature for these compounds
We studied how Steinbeck combines the Naturalist genre and biblical allegory , focusing on the character of Slim. Joshua studied the textual descriptions of Slim as "authoritative , and having an understanding beyond knowledge and words" and aptly concluded that allegorically Slim was deistic emphasized by his refusal to intervene in the euthanizing of Candy's dog. We discussed how within the Naturalist genre the external forces that "kill" do so without sentiment or reason. Joshua continues to make incisive comparisons to " A Farewell to Arms" also a Naturalistic novel. We further explored how the euthanizing of Candy's aged dog represents society's discarding of the weak and the old after it has no further use for them.
Chapter 11 Stellenangebote authentic Listening exercise from the online textbook, then discussion of Lebenslauf and assigned homework to create a cv, then Joshua's Powerpoint presentation on Composers in Germany
Review why polar covalent bonds will form. Examine the concept of partial charge on molecular ends. Using molecular models, have Joshua construct and then draw on the board a hydrogen oxygen bond and then a water molecule. Elicit the partial polarity each, and then determine thate the water molecule is asymmetrical and polar covalent. Construct a carbon-chlorine bond, determine its polarity. Construct a carbon tetrachloride molecule and elicit why this molecule is non polar, even though it is composed of polar C-Cl bonds.
