Joshua was tasked with using Adobe Illustrator with which to create a layered art project. He worked industriously and independently on his assignment. Joshua is impressively task-oriented and aways mindful to follow directives to a tee.

I subbed for Marcus this afternoon, Wednesday, 12/11/24 - from 12:06 - 12:34.
We continued to study Hopkins' PIed Beauty" in order to focus on the use of structure and punctuation to create or to complement meaning. We reviewed the use of hyphens to slow pacing and to create a juxtaposition between the particular and the abstract in the first two stanzas, and observed the use of antithesis as a mirror of the speaker's observations that apparent contrasts are in truth a part of God's plan . I also provided instruction on paradox and juxtaposition based on two additional poems. We then reviewed Joshua's homework MCQs on AP classroom as he had difficulty with the Edna Millay poem. I discussed each metaphor, the leaf and the tree ,and explained how these metaphors illustrate the poet's perspective on human mortality. We will continue reviewing the poem tomorrow.
Discuss color changes which occur when a piece of metal is heated from hot to very, very hot. Review wave length, frequency, and amplitude. Introduce C=wavelength x frequency. Discuss that high frequency UV light and lower frequency IR light are released also but not seen. Discuss Plank's formulations involving oscillations, vibrations as whole numbers and the formula E= nhv, units in Joules.
Discuss action at a distance. Introduce magnetic field as a force field. Depict the force field surrounding the Earth as vector arrows. Demonstrate how the vector arrows become closer the closer to the surface. Define the square of the distance used to illustrate the change in force field. Discuss zero net gravitational force at the center of the planet. Discuss weightlessness as the absence of a supporting force and not the absence of gravity
We examined the related techniques of paradox, juxtaposition, antithesis, and irony and how punctuation and structure illustrate these techniques. To study examples of these techniques ,we studied the Victorian poem, "Pied Beauty." Joshua first identified the use of antithesis in the poem and we then tied this technique to the poem's theme of Nature's contrasts as a manifestation of creative perfection. We further studied how the idiosyncratic use of the hyphenated nouns highlights the motif of creation's contrasts .
We will review Euler's Method for finding an estimate of a particular value of a differential equation. We will derive the basic growth and decay function by solving a differential equation. We will apply this to problems.

We completed the session as stated in the outline. We aklso had time to review several algebra concepts related to his taking the SAT on Saturday.
Discuss electromagnetic radiation and EM waves. Define how they are characterized by wavelength and frequency. Introduce how these waves are propagated through space as vibrations and a magnetic field, at right angles to each other. Define axis of propagation. Define and discuss wavelength, frequency, and amplitude. Introduce the formula C (speed of light) = lambda(wavelength) x frequency. Discuss C = 2.99 X 10^8 m/s.
Demonstrate a gravitational field using magnets and iron filings. Define gravitational field as a force field. Demonstrate gravitational field lines being closer to the Earth by using field line arrows. Using the law of universal gravitation, F= G m1m2/D^2, Calculate the mass of the Earth.
