Atticus and I reviewed and corrected last night's homework. He did well with percents greater than 100 but needed to correct the percents less than 1 answers. Then, we continued to work on the unit review, finishing the estimating percentages and finding the percent of a number sections. The remainder of the review on finding the whole given a part and the percent was assigned for homework.
We completed Atticus' essay on " A Long Walk to Water" during today's class. First, we studied the text and discussed how to conclude the second paragraph in a way that addresses the essay prompt .I then reviewed the purpose of a conclusion ,and we examined different approaches and ideas to incorporate into the final paragraph . After Atticus drafted his conclusion paragraph , I provided editing suggestions including how to improve word choice, and how to correct fragments and shifting verb tenses. Atticus was able to recognize how to address all of the editing suggestions and completed all of the revisions.
Atticus learned about land and sea breezes. He viewed a video, drew a diagram of a land breeze on the board and in his science notebook, and answered the follow up questions.
Atticus began class with a meditation activity. Next, he completed a jump rope warmup. Atticus' goal was to complete 100 consecutive jumps. He came very close to his goal by achieving 99 jumps. Then, Atticus participated in a fun, high energy game of soccer, focusing on kicking the ball into a designated goal.
How to use the Sword to practice, the Nunchaku to practice and Bo Staff to practice your Martial Arts. Learning that a sword is an extension of the hand and mind means that we must have a positive disciplined practice. His lesson today was perfection is a journey, not a destination. Practice makes better, correct practice makes you even better.

Atticus worked hard today and smashed the bo staff. He loved using the sword and all the weapons to enhance his practice.
After reviewing last night's homework on solving 1-step equations, Atticus continued to work on understanding percents. He completed a converting fractions chart in which he took given fractions and found the equivalent decimal and percent as well as the part-to-whole ratio. Then, Atticus and I began the unit concept and skills review. The understanding percents and relating fractions, decimals, and percents sections were completed today and the section on percents of more than 100 and less than 1/2 was assigned for homework.
Atticus focused today on answering 3 questions about China. What 2 developments did the Chinese people keep secret and why? Who was the Chinese explorer named Zheng He? Why is a new writing system being taught in China?
Atticus completed the lab "Moving Air" today, which explores why air flows. He observed that air pressure differences cause wind and airflow. Air moves from an area of high pressure and density to low pressure and density. He answered the follow up questions.
Atticus was attentive to the class ,and almost finishing reviewing the quiz. He will do chapter 11 quiz tomorrow.He completed for japanese final ! with A today.
