Lesson Outline
Today, Atticus and I used our time completing last night's homework for half credit. He evaluated expressions by substituting values for variables and applied this ability to real-world problem-solving questions by writing expressions to model scenarios before evaluating them. For homework, Atticus was assigned the lesson's 5-question quiz on evaluating algebraic expressions.

A Christmas Carol/Dickens
Lesson Outline
Atticus has done very well in formulating and then interpreting textual journal entries. Today, we noted Dickens' distinct writing style( the anaphora) as discussed in Atticus' journal entries. After we studied Dickens' description of the Ghost of Christmas past , Atticus made additional entries discussing the symbolism of this spirit. Continuing our study of style, we read a few pages into the next chapter, noting Dickens' detailed descriptions . Since our edition of the story is somewhat abridged, I explained the source of Scrooge's antagonism toward his nephew,Fred, and the source of Scrooge's father's antagonism toward Scrooge as a boy. Both Scrooges's sister and his mother died in childbirth.

Life Science - Levels of Organization
Lesson Outline
Today, Atticus and I began learning about how the body is composed of levels of organization. We viewed a video called "Pointillism." This video demonstrated how a famous painting is composed of tiny colored dots of paint grouped together to create images and a painting, much like our bodies are composed of different cells that work together to create tissues, organs, organ systems and bodies. Atticus drew a pointillism piece of artwork that utilized different colored dots to create whole images.
