Today we practiced converting Degrees Minutes and Seconds back into their decimal form. JPaul worked to take the decimal part of the degree and divide it by 60 and then 3600 to convert them into their degrees minutes seconds form. Then I showed JPaul how to use the calculator functions to do that. Next, we started an introduction on Areas of sectors. We considered the vobabulary and formula. We will need to continue with this tomorrow.
List, view diagrams, and discuss the 5 layers of the atmosphere starting from the closest, the troposphere to the farthest, the exosphere. List the factors present in each one which affect cooling, heating, solar radiation blockage, and the albedo affect. Discuss the 3 major causes of uneven warming. These include variation of the Earth's angle, the variation of surface area illuminated, and the albedo affect. Discuss how air currents are influenced by temperature change, how air currents carry warm and cold air to different regions, and how currents move moisture around the planet. Discuss the four properties that determine how air circulates. Introduce abiabatic cooling and heating along with latent heating, and their effects.
Today we began by reviewing degrees and radians (how to go from one version to the other). Then we discussed how to go from degrees/minutes/seconds to their decimal form. JPaul was a bit rusty at first, but with a few reminders he was able to recall. Next, he helped me with some Easter decorating. I needed his long arms to help me reach high up! :)
Unit 7- Introductions,Conclusions/ Qualifying arguments
Lesson Outline
As JP is still working on completing the Unit 7 argumentative essay, we today reviewed his draft and my comments. I continued to emphasize the need to relate the evidence, through commentary, to the thesis. As such, as JP continued writing ,I offered comments on his use of commentary to ensure the commentary explained the relevance of the evidence. We further worked on drafting the concession segment of the essay which both acknowledges an opposing view, yet distinguishes the opposition sufficiently so as to ,in effect, support the thesis. We last discussed our assignments and test schedule for the week.
