Today we played hangman in Spanish. Then, he completed activities 5.1 and 5.2 of the book, on page 59. He is learning the preterite tense.

JPaul was absent for class. The class time was used to prepare materials.

Discuss the type, amounts, and locations of the water found on the planet. Indicate how less than 1% of fresh water is available as drinking water.
Introduce aquifers, confined and unconfined. Differentiate the typs of water found in each, and why unconfined will contain toxins and pollutants due to anthropogenic activity. Discuss the flow of water from ground water into the aquifers, and the reasons for the non sustainability of water in confined aquifers.
Discuss surface water, large rivers, flood plains and the formation of lakes

In preparation for JP's writing a synthesis essay using 6 provided sources, we today first studied the 6 sources by succinctly identifying the claim advanced in each source. JP then discussed the thesis he plans to address citing the six sources as evidence. We explored how to derive an overarching thesis based on divergent sources and thus how to avoid simply summarizing the source material. I then distributed material about the AP exam and explained strategies for answering the three timed essays focusing for today on the synthesis essay. I last answered JP's questions on the proper use of "who" and "whom."

Today, JPaul took a pop quiz over inventory management and supplier relations.

JPaul had a Test today on Solving Literal Equations, Absolute Value Equations, and Quadratic Equations. JPaul worked the entire period. He stopped to ask me few clarifying questions. He got stuck on a few problems and was unable to finish. I encouraged him to review the quadratic formula (recall the Pop goes the weasle song) and lookover completing the square. He will finish the test tomorrow.

We explored the use of connotation as a tool for enhancing an argumentative essay. JP did very well in his AP classroom work as well as in identifying the use of connotation in the essay he read last night. We then revisited his first synthesis essay and after I provided suggestions for using transition phrases between ideas to tie the commentary together ,JP redrafted some of his work. We further practiced adding connotative words to his essay as per our class discussion.

We went over inventory management and turn over rations highlighted in Ch. 14.

Today he completed exercises 4.5 and 4.6 of the book, on page 58. He is working on the imperfect tense.

Today JPaul read Ch. 14 in the eBook and we discussed negotiating with suppliers.
