It was nice to see JPaul back in class today. We worked on Radical Expressions today. We discussed the properties and techniques on how to simplifiy non-perfect roots. We practiced working with square roots, cube roots, and 4th roots. JPaul used the factor tree to break down radicals into their simplest form. Then we worked on adding, subtracting, and multiplying. JPaul understands the concepts, but will have to be careful with his calculations to avoid simple mistakes.

Essay Writing and Revisions
Lesson Outline
As JP requested additional instruction to assist his completing the rhetorical analysis essay, today we worked on elements and organization of the rhetorical analysis essay. Focusing on the thesis sentence we created last session, I discussed how to use the thesis as an organizational guide . As such ,we first completed and revised the paragraph on JFK's use of pathos and ethos. I provided models demonstrating how historical allusions to William Bradford evoke an emotional patriotic response in the listener and why this allusion was effective in American culture. We then reviewed elements of ethos and I pointed out how JFK's use of the words "we " and "our" provide a shared sense of mission and values and thus create ethos. JP then worked on completing the paragraph on pathos and ethos as rhetorical choices employed in the speech. Last, we noted elements to incorporate in the conclusion which JP will complete for homework.
