Today, JP worked through a set of 2023 free response AP questions. Topics included GMO's, manatee populations and effects of reduction of seaweeds. We went over his responses together.
Today JPaul and I reviewed some of the concepts that we've been covering lately since they can be a bit challenging. HE did a great job recalling how to do them. The first problems we practiced were giving us the coordinates of a point in the x-y plane. We plotted the point, labeled the sides and then came up with the other trig ratios. Next we were given one trig functions values and the sign of another. Using that info, we had to determine which quadrant we were in first, then we could set up the triangle to find the missing sides.
We first reviewed the synthesis essay JP drafted over the weekend. I provided comments on the need for a clear specific thesis and noted that JP's diction, transitions , and style were very good. I reminded JP to add concession and acknowledgment to his essay. JP then began working on a synthesis essay from our first practice test which we will review this week along with his practice MCQ responses.
Today, JPaul defined key terms from Ch. 15 and 16 in preparation for his upcoming test. We also discussed Foreign Exchange Markets and reviewed International Finance risks.
Today he started a new chapter, where he will learn how to express future events in Spanish. He completed pages 101 to 103. He did a good job today with his spelling.
We reviewed JP's AP MCQ assignment as a foundation for instruction on the use of transitions to signal differences and similarities. I placed on the board a series of "But" transitions such as "however, despite, while ,and although" and we then applied the instruction to a sample AP question on transition phrases that illustrate contrast. We then worked on forming a thesis statement for the synthesis essay . I provided suggestions for consideration with a goal toward guiding the essay away from just a mere repetition of the claims of the source material. JP then analyzed the sources and crafted a thesis and some ideas for an essay introduction.
Today he watched the video on YouTube: Palabras dificiles de pronunciar, and he wrote about the video. He did a good job with his grammar. After that, he read it out loud.
