Presidents and Patriots: Ben learned the birth place of several Presidents and Patriots and their contributions to our country, namely Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, James Madison, Harriet Tubman, and Fredrick Douglas. Ben asked insightful questions about them. Good Job, Ben
Patriots and Leaders of our Country: Ben was introduced to Thomas Jefferson author of The Declaration of Independence, Abraham Lincoln who put and end to slavery. We viewed battles of the Civil War and discussed the Gettysburg Address presented at the site of the Battle of Gettysburg. Ben said, "Slavery is wrong." Great job, Ben.
I briefly got to know Sam. She already had an idea in mind for her business letter she needed to complete for her FLVS language arts class. She was writing to Lego Headquarters to introduce the idea of a musical line of Legos. She was very excited about this idea! We brainstormed ideas on why these Legos would be a success and figured out how to appropriately put the information into a business letter. We talked about the importance of sounding professional when writing a business letter. We successfully attached and submitted her business letter to complete the assignment.
Continents of the world: Ben had to locate and name the 7 continents of the world. He got all but 3, we will try again tomorrow with review followed by a test with a blank map. Introduced early Presidents of United States, with their names and contributions to our country. Ben liked the story how we became a free nation breaking relations with Great Britain. Very good, Ben.
Name the oceans and continents: Ben did very well with little assistance naming and locating the oceans and continents of the world. Super job, Ben. You got 100% on the test.

Lesson Outline
I guided Sam through several sections of her Virtual School lessons. Today we watched a video on Business Letters and Sam picked out a topic she'd like to write. She had a creative idea to write to the LEGO company to see if they were interested in designing a "Wicked" (the musical) Lego game. She then researched the LEGO address. We also reviewed Economics, supply and demand and resources of a state. We did some reading out loud from the King and the Kitchen book.

Lesson Comments
We worked as best as we could to do segments of several areas on the Virtual School planner. Focus was a problem. It was very difficult for Sam to keep focus with her desk full of objects. It might help to clear out space on the computer table.
Maps: Different climate conditions are related to where we are located relative to the equator. Ben was shown why parts of the world are frozen, desert, or have moderate climates. He identified the equator by himself, after a short discussion, he said the Arctic regions get less sun that's why they are frozen. You are so smart, Ben.
Memorize and locate on a map the 5 oceans: Ben created a word term using the first letter of the 5 oceans to help him memorize the names of each. Then, he had to locate them on a world map. He is in the process of memorizing and locating them. Practice makes perfect. Go for it, Ben.
