PJ's Creative Character Creation
Lesson Outline
While PJ was sketching in his sketchbook during class, he created a wonderful new character inspired by the skeleton in the science lab. It is a skeleton character made from robotic parts and found bones and DNA. I am encouraging him to continue sketching and developing this idea. It is very creative! I told him it reminded me of Jean-Michel Basquiat's work.

Background for Cubist Owl - Incomplete
Lesson Outline
PJ was struggling to meet the objective of the grid drawing assignment that I gave him weeks before Thanksgiving. Rather than having his quarter art grade suffer and bring down his GPA, I am having him go back to his Cubist owl project and create a landscape/background for it. This is the only project I will have to grade for this quarter. He only has two upper school studios per week and one individual class on Friday. However, he often leaves school early on Fridays and either misses part or all of art class. He left school early again today.

Lesson Comments
PJ is disrespectful to me! As he was leaving school today early today (6th Period), I said "PJ, you are going to miss another art class. You only have two more individual classes and four more studio classes before the end of quarter, and your owl needs to be completed for me to grade you. His response, "Why are you saying it like it's my fault?" I said, "Because you are going to miss class." He said, "Dude, don't worry about it." I told him my name is Dr. Jackie. I do not believe that his parents would allow him to be disrespectful to teachers. I asked Chef John if any of his students call him "dude," and Chef John told me he would not allow it. Why is it acceptable for him to address me this way?

Found Color Landscape
Lesson Outline
PJ has been struggling to meet the objective of the grid drawing assignment, so I am tabling it for now. I am having him go back to his Cubist owl project and create a landscape for it in found color. Found color is color which is found from papers, magazines, and other printed sources. He will rip and cut colored papers and glue them to a background to create a Cubist landscape for his owl. However, PJ did not attend class because he left school early.
