We began with our daily language review which focused on common and proper nouns. For grammar today, we had fun with a Valentine themed task. Using the themed task cards, Jonathan worked to identify the word, or words, that solved the part of speech in question for that particular card. This included items such as prepositional phrase, adjective, adverb, predicate, and sentence type. Jonathan has not yet learned prepositional phrases, so we took a little time for a brief introduction and worked through those task cards together. Next, we took a spelling pretest with a word list generated from words related to our novel study, The Knight at Dawn. Jonathan scored 4/12, so we will work with the words he missed over the next week. These words include knight, guard, dungeon, castle, crocodile, and bridge. Our Fun Friday activity today revolved around an educational board game entitled, Inference: School Days! The game cards presented a short passage and a question with three answer choices. We had to read the card and infer the meaning of the card. Jonathan wrapped up his session with the last round of decoding Valentine jokes.
