Lesson Outline
Religion: We wrapped up lesson 23 today. We started by reading about how we grow closer to Jesus and one another. The text outlined the general flow of Mass after the bread and wine have become the Body and Blood of Christ. We read the song, We Come to Share God’s Special Gift. Jonathan then worked through some exercises using the keywords altar and Gospel. He also completed his follow up assessment, scoring 5/5. Finally, he drew a picture of himself at Mass. Language Arts: To catch up from no school on Monday, Jonathan worked through two days of his daily language review. We worked on some tricky pronouns (used with other nouns). Next, Jonathan continued the publishing process of his writing piece. He wrote and illustrated the first paragraph of the body of his story. We enjoyed reading chapter 8 of our novel, The Knight at Dawn. We discussed vocabulary terms such as flailed and tread (water). We inferred what the author was telling us with all of the extra “splashes” in the water. Jonathan also practiced his book-related spelling words. He is really enjoying the novel. Since President’s Day was this week, we read an interesting article from ReadWorks about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. The article listed fun facts about each president. Jonathan scored 100% on the follow up assessment. We completed some follow up exercises exploring the vocabulary word “honest” used in the article. We then moved on to our suffix project. We examined the suffixes -er (more) and -less. Jonathan created the clouds, lightning, and raindrops project for these two suffixes like we did the other day. He then wrote the suffixes and we worked through the special spelling rules with -er. Finally, Jonathan wrapped up the day with some time on Reading Eggspress. We worked on answering questions using a variety of text analysis and critical literacy skills such as author’s purpose and style, inferring, analyzing the mood, interpreting character behavior/feelings, and drawing conclusions. This created a great challenge for him and he scored an 88% on the 16 questions.
