Aiden’s session started with a mix-up, as he mistakenly received a math worksheet intended for another class. He completed it quickly and correctly before shifting focus back to his art. He spent the remainder of class repairing his clay sculpture, carefully reattaching a broken finger and reinforcing the character’s club which hadn’t properly bonded in the kiln. With the remaining time, he explored fantasy concept art online, showing me pieces that inspire him. Aiden has a strong passion for concept art and encouraging him to translate his inspiration into his own work through sketching and sculpting will help him develop his artistic voice.

Please note: This is the summary for Friday, March 21.
Alexandra and I started out by revisiting one of the dinosaur books that we read together before to help her settle into our session: How Do Dinosaurs Go to School?
We used manipulatives like clay to make basic shapes.
We then discussed some words in Spanish. They included Vela, Flor, Lapida, and Esqueleto.
The words are all tied to the Mexican celebration of Day of the Dead, though we only discussed that in passing today.
We used the clay to make a flower and a candle. Alexandra pointed to some of the pictures of the vocabulary words as I would say them in Spanish.
We then moved to lunch. Alexandra ate in the cafeteria. She got her water bottle from the preschool room at this time.
During the school recess time, one of the other students and her discussed dinosaurs.
She then went outside. We kicked a soccer ball back and forth.
We came inside and read a book about dinosaurs that compares them to modern animals with similar traits. We discussed their similarities.
We listened to a song in Spanish: Duerme Ya and Alexandra was offered an opportunity to take a nap at this point. She did not quite get comfortable enough to nap at this time.
Alexandra and I then looked at the book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. She seemed to enjoy the book. We discussed why the mouse would want the different items that it was requesting. Alexandra seemed to appreciate the circular nature of the book. When we got to the end where the mouse wants milk and cookies again she laughed.
We counted the number of items that mouse requested in the book.
Cade worked on reviewing his math facts to increase his speed when he is calculating answers to problems. He completed several review activities pertaining to money, time, and word problems.
