Language arts: Jonathan took his whole book assessment for our novel study, The Knight at Dawn. He scored 12/12 on this lengthy multiple-choice exam. Next, we continued working on the publication of his snowy day themed story. Jonathan illustrated page 4 and also wrote pages 3 - 5 for his final copy. As he was writing, he decided he wanted to make some changes, so we actually stopped for some revisions on page 4 along the way. Today we began Jonathan’s non-fiction unit. We read about headings, table of contents, and glossary. We practiced using a table of contents in his iReady textbook with one of our source books, Earthworms. We enjoyed a Brain Pop Jr. learning video on reading nonfiction books. On the follow up quizzes, he scored 5/5 on the easy and 5/5 on the hard quiz (with help). Jonathan was excited to start our new novel, Mummies in the Morning (Magic Tree House #3) today. We read through chapter 1 and answered the questions in our follow up reader’s response packet. Jonathan took his spelling pretest for a word list related to this novel. This was a nice, challenging list for him with words including mirage, pyramid, symbols, and tomb. Religion: Today we began the unit on Lent. We read about how the Church gets ready to celebrate Jesus’ Death and Resurrection. Jonathan said a prayer to himself to thank Jesus for sharing his life with him.
