Lesson Outline
Building upon information we reviewed last session and reviewed the shared characteristics of living and non-living things, and reviewed the elements that make something living vs. non-living. Jonathan learned that the needs of plants are much like his own needs. We discussed how plants are living things, and need to breathe, eat and reproduce to sustain life. We discussed how giant redwood trees, soft green blades of grass, and bright tulips blooming have similar needs to humans, animals, and other living organisms in order to grow and flourish. Jonathan filled out a chart tasking him with determining living from non-living things by answering questions such as: does it breathe? Does it move? Does it change and grow? Does it need air, food, and water to live? Does it have offspring/reproduce? He demonstrated a good understanding of the life science concepts reviewed based on his performance and responses to questions.
