Lesson Outline
Religion: Today in Jonathan’s We Believe textbook, we read about how we are all important to God. To expand, this explored how God created each of us and we discussed our similarities and differences. God wants us to use our gifts and talents and use them to take care of creation and to take care of one another. We discussed Jonathan’s special gifts and how shares them with others. We listened to the song, Malo! Malo! Thanks be to God. We also read about how we care for and respect all people. Language Arts: It is Word Work Wednesday! We used the word “stealthy” to focus on today. We found the definition and part of speech in a dictionary packet, the guide words on the top of the dictionary page, identified a synonym and antonym, and used the word in a sentence. We reviewed guide words and discussed how the first guide word is the first word on the page and the last guide word is the last definition on the page. Today we read chapters 3 - 5 in our new literature study of Night at the Ninjas. Jonathan practiced his spelling words to accompany our novel. After reading, Jonathan did a great job with discussion questions to assess his comprehension of today’s material. We then completed ½ of a crossword puzzle focusing on higher level vocabulary words from the text (including vanish, weary, and samurai). In his iReady textbook, we read about comparing characters. We learned that comparing and contrasting can help us understand the characters better. We read passages describing the experiences of two different characters, which we then compared and contrasted. We then used source texts to continue exercising this skill with written responses. For our nonfiction text feature study, Jonathan wrote captions for nonfiction pictures. The pictures were of various animals in their habitats. Jonathan did a nice job generating a sentence to use as a caption for each of the six pictures. Finally, on IXL, Jonathan practiced choosing the correct preposition to complete the sentence.
