Lesson Outline
Religion: Today we continued in chapter 26 of Jonathan’s We Believe textbook. Jonathan reviewed what he feels is God’s creation by drawing a picture. We reviewed ways that Jonathan can share God’s love through a checklist. He also drew a picture of himself and wrote about what makes him a disciple of Jesus, how he can help take care of God’s creation, and about a special gift he has from God. He scored 5/5 on his follow-up assessment of this chapter. Language Arts: For literature today, we read chapters 6 - 8 in our novel, Night of the Ninjas. We worked through some follow-up discussion questions after our reading and completed our crossword puzzle focusing on vocabulary from the novel. Jonathan practiced his novel-based spelling words as well. Additionally, we learned about the figurative language skill of alliteration. Using a word bank for support, Jonathan practiced alliteration by adding a third word to a list of words with the same starting letter. This included phrases such as (Gavin’s gold glasses and silky satin sash). In his iReady textbook, we continued our study of comparing characters. We discussed two characters from his source texts and identified a difference and a similarity. Jonathan answered some questions for a chapter check-up and did a great job. We then read about the integration of knowledge and ideas in informational text. Jonathan compared and contrasted two photographs containing lions. For our non-fiction text features project, we practiced using an index. Jonathan used a sample index and found the targeted words. We reviewed the differences between an index and a table of contents. We also completed an activity to practice using the glossary. Jonathan found definitions and examined the word order used in the glossary. We continued our grammar work with some practice using prepositions on IXL. Jonathan filled in the blank on sentences with multiple choice options. Finally, we wrapped up the day looking at some named pictures of animals that live in the rainforest. Jonathan selected three to research for our writing assignment that will occur after spring break.
