SKYPE:: Taxonomy / Bacteria
GT and I reviewed the structure of the taxonomic system, including the meme to remember the different taxa, and the criteria for each. We also reminded ourselves of the different kingdoms under the system. We then examined the Kingdom: Bacteria and the related phyla. These taxa are classified by shape, and the three main shapes are cocci (round), bacilli (rod shaped) and spiral (spiral). The classes are based on density and include dilo, strepto, and staphylo, prefixes that denote the manner by which bacteria assemble. GT was tasked with determining the name (i.e. classification) of a series of bacteria samples. We also watched a very short video showing how fast bacteria evolve to resist anti-bacterial loads.
