Lesson Outline
Religion: Today we began our study of Easter in Jonathan’s We Believe textbook. We read about the joyous time of Easter. We discussed signs of life that we see outdoors. From the textbook, we read from Matthew 28: 1- 10 which told of an angel telling Mary Magdalene and Mary that Jesus had risen from the dead and to go tell the other followers. Language Arts: In practicing alliteration, Jonathan declared today as “Marvelous Monday”. With our daily language review, we discussed how book titles will be underlined when we write them. We also identified our sentences as declarative or interrogative as well as determined the complete subject and complete predicate. In Jonathan’s iReady textbook, we completed pages 137 – 138. We read about key points and reasons to support key points. We read an example in the text. Using a provided source text, Upsetting the Balance (about food chains), we identified the key point between two given examples. We then found a reason in the text to support the key point. Jonathan then completed two assessments related to our novel, Afternoon on the Amazon. After several days of practice, Jonathan scored 11/12 + the bonus word (stretches) on his spelling test, which was up from 5/12 on the pretest. He then scored 15/15 on his multiple-choice whole book test on our novel. We enjoyed a fun language activity in which Jonathan had to practice categorizing. He was given a list of items and had to develop a question for them. For word work today on IXL, he worked with identifying how many syllables in words such as caterpillar, umbrella, and microscope. Finally, we continued our focus on the rainforest. We began researching for our new writing project in which Jonathan will create a chapter book on animals of the rainforest. We looked up the ocelot, yellow spotted river turtle, boa constrictor, and purple honeycreeper (bird). We took notes on each animal as to their diet, appearance, interesting facts, and where in the rainforest they reside. We looked at pictures of each as well. Jonathan drew an illustration of the boa constrictor. We discussed how to indent and he began writing a paragraph about the appearance of the boa constrictor. On National Geographic Kids, we looked at pictures of some animals and plants of the
rainforest. To wrap up our session, we watched a video giving a nice overview of the temperate and tropical
rainforests.
