TEAMS: Taxonomy / Plants -
GT and I reviewed the anatomy of a flower. I then described the alternate generation process that all plants employ. We discussed the benefits of having both asexual and sexual reproductive strategies. We examined the process for flowering plants in some detail, from the creation of the ovules and spores, to the meiosis and mitosis that allow for haploid cells to represent receptive ovules and pollen. These receptive cells are positioned for bees and other pollinators to fertilize the plant to create new ovules and start the process again. We discussed how the process is manifest in gymnosperms and non-vascular plants. GT was tested on the taxonomy of plants.
