Lesson Outline
Religion: Today we reviewed the unit 2 vocabulary digital flash cards. We discussed any that Jonathan did not recall. He also read the Apostles’ Creed from his prayer booklet. Language Arts: It is Word Work Wednesday! We used the word “retaliate” to focus on today. We found the definition and part of speech in a dictionary packet, the guide words on the top of the dictionary page, identified a synonym and antonym, and used the word in a sentence. We reviewed guide words and discussed how the first guide word is the first word on the page and the last guide word is the last definition on the page. In our daily language review, we continued our discussion of words that end in “s”. I am reinforcing the terminology of contraction, possessive, and plural. We also identified the subject and complete predicate in the sentences. For literature today, Jonathan first practiced his novel-based spelling words. We then enjoyed watching the Sci Show Kids video about what astronauts do. We learned about some of the qualifications needed to become an astronaut as well as some of their duties. We also read an article (3rd grade level) on readworks.org about the astronauts who walked on the moon. These activities provided some great supplemental information on our topic of the moon. We discussed the vocabulary words land (verb), steer, and gravity with our reading. We then read chapters 5-6 in our book, Midnight on the Moon. We worked through follow-up questions for comprehension and vocabulary after our reading. We discussed the meanings of barren and meteorites. Additionally, we discussed the simile “bucked like a bronco”. Finally, we wrapped up the day with work in Jonathan’s Ready Classroom textbook. On pages 143 and 144 in his book, we answered four questions to compare and contrast elements of source texts about Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony.
