Lesson Outline
Religion: Today Jonathan read Glory Be to The Father from his prayer booklet in his We Believe textbook. We then reviewed the digital flashcards from Unit 4. This includes words such as Eucharist, altar, and gospel. Language Arts: For grammar today, we discussed verb tense, sentence type, and practiced proper capitalization and punctuation in our daily language review. We then moved to literature with our new novel, Ghost Town at Sundown (Magic Tree House #10). In our shared reading we worked on reading fluency and pausing with punctuation. We read chapters 1-3. The Old West brings a unique setting and vocabulary. Jonathan drew his interpretation of the setting and we generated 5 adjectives to describe it. We looked at pictures and looked up information on prairie, spurs, a map of the US to see the west, and a map of Santa Fe, NM traveling to Fort Worth, TX as is the setting for this story. We completed discussion questions after each chapter including three cause and effect elements of one of the chapters. Jonathan took a pre-test on his challenging novel-based spelling words. This list includes words such as tombstone, beneath, and whinny. Finally, we reviewed Jonathan’s writing piece based on the prompt in which a boy discovers that his pet can talk. Jonathan told a nice story, however he drifted off the prompt and only had the dog say one word. He then started writing about trying to play with him. We discussed rewriting and making sure he stays true to the prompt. He was concerned about not knowing how to write to show the animal talking. We discussed ways he can reflect that without having to use quotation marks. I told him that I could help directly quote the pet in a few spots as he writes. He began a new draft for this assignment.

Lesson Comments
As I reported on Wed. April 29, I had an internet disruption during my session and continued my session on my phone. Unfortunately, I had another disruption on Friday, May 1, which I readily solved by using the hot spot from my cell phone and using that internet service to resume my session on the computer. I had a service technician at my home on Sunday morning. He replaced a line outside, so we were hopeful the problem had been resolved. Unfortunately, my service went down again during my session. It goes down right around 9:10-9:15 a.m. and stays down up to 90 minutes. I’m on the phone with my service provider as I type! It isn’t a big deal as it only takes me about 2 minutes to get my hot spot on my phone set up. I just wanted you to be aware that I’ve had one very brief interruption during a few of my sessions with Jonathan. I have another service appointment tomorrow afternoon. Fingers crossed this one works. Jonathan is aware that if we get interrupted, I will call him back within a minute or two.
