Denise sent me the summer reading list for North Broward Prep. I offered to help Nicole choose a book and to start it with our remaining 11 days of school. From a list of 45 books, Nicole chose a non-fiction book called Kook by Peter Heller. We researched the author and discovered that he is an award-winning adventure writer. Nicole downloaded the Kindle app on her computer and purchased the book. After she printed out the short answer questions due in August, we co-read the non-fiction book, while simultaneously discovering the features of Kindle. Nicole can highlight and take notes while reading, as well as look words up in the Oxford English Dictionary and unknown information on Wikipedia. The Kindle app is going to be a valuable tool for Nicole next year. I encouraged her to buy the Audible add-on should she choose to listen to the book as well as read it.
