TEAMS: Taxonomy / Animals - Mollusc
GT and I discussed the movie Chasing Coral, focusing on the biology of coral, especially the how and why they are bleaching. We then returned to our exploration of the phyla of the animal kingdom. We examined the phyla Mollusca, which consists of three classes: gastropods, bivalves, and cephalopods. We then watched a ‘Shape of Life’ video illustrating the evolutionary changes and advantages of the three classes. We examined the manner by which gastropods can defend themselves from predators, and how some prey on bivalves. We also found several short videos of bivalves including gooey ducks, and giant clams. We then examined the cephalopods and their amazing ability to change the color and texture of their skin, and exhibit their intelligence. We listed the new physical features of these evolutionary advances.
